Holiday Helper Project

Each year, Student Activities partners with a community organization to help out Cayuga County residents in need during the holiday season. This year, we have partnered with the Friends Helping Friends of Cayuga County (FHFCC) and their Holiday Helper Project. FHFCC takes applications from residents of Cayuga county to be a part of this project. Families who qualify will receive 2 gifts per child in the family, along with a goodie bag to fill stockings or use as an extra gift. Goodie bag items could include hot cocoa, popcorn, craft kits, candy canes, etc.

Wells College will be one of many locations around the county for people to drop off toys or goodie bag items for this project. Toys can range from newborn to 16 years old and should be donated unwrapped. Families will receive wrapping paper and tape to wrap their own items if they need it. If you weren’t aware, Cayuga county has some of the highest poverty rates in the state. This is a great opportunity to help our local community this holiday season. The items you donate do not have to be extravagant but should be new and in the original packaging. Drop off boxes are located in Sommer Center near the front entrance and in Macmillan, outside of the AER. Those were put out today – look for the Friends Helping Friends of Cayuga County, Inc signs on them. Collection of items will continue until December 9th. On December 10th FHFCC will be on campus to collect our donations.

If Amazon is more your style you can visit FHFCC’s Amazon wish list and purchase items from that. Anything purchased through this link will be sent directly to FHFCC, so you do not have to bring it to campus. If you go the Amazon route please be sure to make your purchase prior to the December 10th deadline.

This is a great opportunity for us to help the families within our own community this holiday season. I hope that you will join me in this endeavor and show Cayuga County what the Wells College community can do!
